Summer Yoga Class Schedule 2018

Yoga Practice with Amy Secrist

Summer  2018

Classes will be held at more than one location, so when considering attending a class, please make sure you’ve got the right place.    Private classes, small groups, and special events can be scheduled by writing to contact@thecatholicyogi.com or by visiting the contact page.

Yoga for Kids:  Practices for Emotional, Mental, and Physical Balance
Mondays, 9:15 – 10:00am
Session 1:  June 4 – June 25
Session 2:  July 16 – Aug. 6
$30 per 4 week session, $55 for both sessions, or $8 drop-in
No Limits Studio
Yoga for Kids (ages 6 – 12) will be a time of practice and play as we uncover a spaciousness between our circumstances and our (re)actions.  This space is our awareness, and recognizing it gives us the power of choice.  We’ll learn a variety of skills to develop a sense of agency and wholeness in our everyday lives.  These skills will make up our “building box,” our treasure trove of self-empowering abilities.   All classes will include breathing practice, focusing and resting the mind, and moving the body.  Each class will have a main area of focus:
Week 1:  Breath and Emotions — how breathing in different ways effects how I feel
Week 2:  Monkey Mind —  discovering the pause, helping my mind rest
Week 3:  Feel Good Yoga Flow — taking care of my body
Week 4:  Building Box — building myself up, whole and happy

Yoga on the Lawn
Tuesdays, 6:00-7:00pm
Session 1:  June 5 – 26
Session 2:  Aug. 7 – 28
No set fee.  (Donations appreciated ~ a portion of which supports the MAC.)
Mansfield Art Center, on the lawn

Yoga on the Lawn is a gentle, all-levels class in which we will cultivate mindfulness through movement and breath work. We will practice postures and mindful breathing to create space within the body for healing and to bring about an overall sense of well-being.

Sunny skies can make for an invigorating yoga practice, and surrounding trees can provide ample shade.  Please bring a mat, blanket, towel, or even sunglasses as you see fit.  As this class is held outdoors, inclement weather is a concern. Please visit the class cancellation page before heading out the door, or sign up to receive texts, so that you will be notified if class is cancelled.

We will explore various breathing practices, gentle movement and postures, deep relaxation, and gratitude meditation. All are encouraged to move at their own pace, take breaks, and ask questions. A variety of yoga props and supports are available, as well as chairs for those who would benefit from a seated practice. Yoga for Veterans Mindful Movement for Resiliency offers students the space and time to explore, remain curious, challenge themselves, be gentle with themselves, and ask for and receive support. This class is open to active military, veterans, and family members.

July Weekend Workshop Opportunities:

Yoga Fundamentals I: A Workshop for Beginning Yoga Students

Saturday, July 21
1:00-3:00
$25 Beginning or $45 for Both
Butterfly House

Yoga Fundamentals II: A Workshop for Continuing Yoga Students

Sunday, July 22
1:00 – 3:00
$25 for Continuing or $45 for Both
Butterfly House

Yoga Fundamentals I:

Yoga is a beautiful and beneficial practice that can assist us in living our best lives.  As incarnational beings we must take care of our bodies, minds, and spirits and practicing allows us to do just that: move and breathe in ways we don’t usually find ourselves in the course of our daily work.  This creates time and space for the body to become strong and supple, the mind to become focused and quiet, and the spirit to realize its freedom.  Because of this, we are better able to move through the world with equanimity and grace.

That being said, it can be intimidating to jump into a random yoga class at your local studio or when you’re away on vacation.  This workshop will provide beginning students with the foundational concepts of yoga practice: pranayama (breathing), asana (postures), and dhyana (meditation).  We will discuss and explore helpful breathing practices, learn and experience beneficial ways of spending a few moments in various postures, and introduce ourselves to a simple and uplifting gratitude meditation.   No prior yoga experience required.  All are welcome.

Yoga Fundamentals II:

This workshop will build on knowledge gained in the beginners class from the previous day.  We will apply our breathing practice to our movement and discover the joys of vinyasa (breathing and moving at the same time on purpose.)  The classic Sun Salutation will be broken down into its various parts and pieces and then strung together like pearls on a string.  This workshop is a great opportunity to ask lots of questions and learn how to tailor the postures and sun salutations to suit your unique needs.  Yoga Fundamentals I (or equivalent prior yoga experience) is a requirement for this workshop.
